The Palm Coast Extension Styles

1-2

Design Summary

The Palm Coast Polo introduced the Tommy Bahama guest to innovative body-mapping design and moisture wicking polyester. Its success opened the door for additional performance styles to be designed. I met these needs by developing a range of extension styles using the same or similar yarns to create designs that aligned with an offshoot collection known as IslandActive.

My Role

  • Market research & concept development
  • Material & fabric development
    • development for buyer’s needs
  • Jacquard Pattern & Artwork development
  • Apparel design & technical design sketches
  • Seasonal color direction

Palm Coast Half Zip

Modeled after my design of the Palm Coast Polo, the half-zip model launched one year after the polo as a companion piece.

Pineapple Palm Coast Polo

This polo was developed using the same double dye, lightweight yarns as the Palm Coast Polo, but as a single needle jacquard in an allover pineapple pattern. This allowed for the same breathability as the original polo while also being more cost-effective by omitting the engineered body-mapping. This design was also adopted for the women’s knit collection.

Palm Coast Flagship Polo

This polo was developed using the same double dye, lightweight yarns as the Palm Coast Polo, but after working with the buying team it was established that the design direction allowed for novelty styling and more expensive trims. I really enjoyed designing the stitch transfer “Tommy Bahama” seen down the center back, as well as a hidden marlin on the side panel of the shirt.

Palm Coast Henley

This henley was designed as a response to market research. I wanted to try a more casual version of the Palm Coast Polo that could still be golf-course appropriate. The henley placket has branded hidden snaps for an elevated casual look. While the fabric is the same double dye, lightweight yarns as the polo with moisture wicking and quick dry properties, it is a solid knit and does not have any body-mapping.

DelrAy Styles

The Delray family of styles are a spin-off from the Palm Coast Polo, designed and developed to expand on IslandActive styles without needing a body-mapping machine -- which was at capacity for production due to the polo. The performance knit is an incredibly soft blend of recycled polyester and spandex. The fabric also takes color very well and has a significantly different look on the face side vs. back, allowing for subtle tonal blocking.

Delray Crew Neck

Designed to be an IslandActive base layering t-shirt.

6-1

Delray Polo

Designed to be a more casual polo than the Palm Coast Polo with a two-button placket and tonal coverstitching, as well as a lower price point

Delray Fronds V-neck, Polo, & Long sleeved Crew Neck

I developed this frond jaquard pattern using the new Delray recycled poly / spandex yarns, hoping the result would be a beautiful jacquard with a great handfeel. The fabrication was so well received that it was produced in three different models.

Future Development

The successful frond jacquard led to my further expansion into developing new patterns using these yarns to sit in the IslandActive category. Future styles include a subtle stitch transfer stripe, an all over geometric print, and an engineered floral design.
